ABOUT OUR CHURCH
We are a small rural church of some eight members and part of the group of South West Congregational Churches supported and encouraged by two Area Support Workers, Adrian Wyatt (email email@example.com) and Gwen Kearley (email firstname.lastname@example.org). Each Church is run independently and decisions made at a meeting of members.
Evanne Voysey arranges for lay preachers to take our services so we have various speakers taking part
each Sunday. Joint services take place with the Parish Church of St. Ida, for special occasions, such as Harvest Festival, the Memorial Service in November and Carol services.
The Congregational Federation based in Nottingham offers ministerial training facilities, deals with "Safe from Harm" policies for children under 18 years and vulnerable adults, guide lines for fees, financial help for churches and details of missionary work and much more. All information is found in the Federation’s Annual Year Book. Each year, the new President of the Federation visits many of the Congregational Churches and receives a warm welcome at each one. Area representatives bring back news from Federation’s Council meetings for discussion at the SW Area Churches quarterly meetings.
IN THE BEGINNING
the first Congregational Service was held in 1864 at Exeter House, 14 Fore Street, Ide in what became known as the ‘Upper Room’. Sunday services, the Lord’s Supper and a weekly Prayer Meeting was held on Tuesday evenings until it was felt a more permanent place of worship should be found. The church was built in 1883. John Courtis Webber paid for the site and contributed towards the cost of the building. See the Foundation Stone set in the front wall of the Church - or Chapel, as it is sometimes known locally.
On 15 October 1971 it was decided by a majority of members not to become a United Reform Church but to remain in the Congregational fold.
